SUMMARY:Intro to Enamel Jewellery - Marianna Lewis
DESCRIPTION:2-DAY WORKSHOP – July 18 & 19 \, 2026 | 9 am – 4 pm\nIn this two-day workshop\, participants will be introduced to some of the basics of jewellery making and enameling. Enamel is glass in a powder form that is dusted and baked onto the surface of metal via kiln firing (exposure to 1500 degrees fahrenheit for 2 minutes) or torch firing (exposure to indirect flame for 30 seconds). Participants will come to understand the medium of metal by learning basic techniques like sawing\, sanding\, filing\, and drilling metal. \nThey will also learn some ways to manipulate metal into different shapes and explore textures. Basic enameling techniques and both firing processes will then be taught\, allowing participants to bring their ideas to life. With these techniques and processes\, participants will create a set of jewellery (a pair of earrings and a pendant) of their very own design to take home. \nTICKET PRICING & MATERIAL COST:\nRegular ticket price (April 15): $205 + taxes (HST) \n NBCCD staff\, faculty\, and current students receive 20% off regular ticket sales while supplies last. Find the NBCCD Discount ticket below. \nAdditional Material fee: $100+ Participants must purchase a material kit from the College Store before the class. Prices may vary\, depending on the thickness and size of the metal. $25 fee for enamel should be paid in cash to the instructor on the day of the course.  \nAdditional instructions: Please wear short-sleeved shirts\, full leg coverage (pants/long skirt)\, no dangling jewellery\, long hair tied back or covered\, closed-toe shoes\, and safety glasses if they prefer their own (if not\, they will be provided). Bring a notebook/ sketchbook to take notes. \nFAQ and refund information can be found at the bottom of this page. \nTHE INSTRUCTOR:\nMarianna Lewis is a dedicated and engaging jewellery artist and metalsmith with a passion for teaching creative arts across a variety of media. She has led numerous workshops\, guiding participants of all ages—children\, teens\, and adults—in making pieces that they truly love. Inspired by the nature she sees around her\, Marianna’s work involves exploring many different textures and finishes. Her curiosity about the world of metal has led her to explore many different techniques which she employs in her work and practice. One of these techniques is enameling\, the process of fusing glass to the surface of metal\, through the addition of heat\, adding colour and depth to her pieces. Known for her strong organizational skills\, Marianna ensures that her classes run smoothly and on time\, while her outgoing personality helps students feel connected\, encouraged and engaged\, making the learning experience enjoyable for everyone. \nLearn more about what we do at Honeybee Folk School and what courses we have coming up!
