Located in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, we offer hands-on experiences in a variety of subjects, all taught in either the beautiful studios at the New Brunswick College of Craft & Design (NBCCD) or one of our partnering locations.

Drawing Animals Part I: Horses – Matt Watkins

4-DAY WORKSHOP – July 15 and 18, 2024 | Tuesday to Friday – 9 am – 4 pm
Learn to draw horses by understanding the basic forms, bones and muscles that make up equine anatomy. We’ll be taking a constructive-anatomical approach, looking at horse anatomy in comparison with other mammals, conceptualizing complex forms as simpler 3D shapes, and practicing drawing horses from photographs, 3D models and live animals. This course is accessible to anyone, regardless of skill level.
In this course, we will be working with traditional materials and working from life at a nearby, off-campus location, in Keswick Valley Farms.

Materials to bring: Sketchbook, newsprint or cartridge paper, graphite pencils, eraser, bulldog clips. Materials are available at the NBCCD College Store.

THE INSTRUCTOR:
Matt Watkins is a multi-disciplinary artist and educator specializing in drawing, painting, and metal arts. His work focuses on contemporary portraiture, figure drawing and comparative anatomy, as well as New Brunswick landscapes and sequential art. Matt maintains his studio practice at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, in addition to his work as an art instructor at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. He regularly offers workshops on figure drawing, portraiture, and is currently working on his first comic book collection of short horror-fiction.
FAQ
Refunds
If a request for a refund is submitted at least 14 days before the course begins, you will be eligible for a 94% refund. A 6% deduction will cover the administration costs and stripe service fee. For refund requests made between 8 and 13 days before the course begins, a 75% refund will be granted. If a refund request is received within 7 days or less before the course start date, a refund will not be issued unless we can fill your spot with another participant. In the event that a participant cannot attend an in-person course due to illness, they can receive a Honeybee voucher for 75% of the value of their course that can be paid towards another class in the future. The participant will need to notify the Honeybee Coordinator before the course begins.
Cancellations
If a workshop is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances regarding the instructor facilities or low enrolment, a 100% refund will be granted to registered participants. If class is cancelled due to weather, the course will be moved to the following weekend (unless otherwise specified). If you cannot attend the new scheduled time, you will be granted a 100% refund.
