a yellow throw pillow made with smocking techniques

ONE-DAY WORKSHOP – May 10, 2025 | 9 am – 4 pm

Discover the art of fabric manipulation and transform textiles into beautifully textured designs. In this hands-on course, participants will explore pleating (knife pleats, box pleats, and tucks), gathering, shirring and an introduction to smocking with basic stitches and patterns. Students will also learn essential fabric preparation and marking techniques, followed by guided hand-smocking practice.

Applying these methods, participants will design and construct a custom throw pillow cover while building confidence in fabric selection, cutting, assembly, and finishing details. This course also strengthens skills in using sewing tools and machines, empowering students to bring their creative ideas to life. Perfect for beginners and beyond, this class offers a strong foundation in both creative and technical fabric manipulation.
