Gather together with makers of all levels to learn new skills and celebrate traditional crafts and regenerative living. Whether you're interested in half-day workshops or multi-week courses, there's something for everyone! Located in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, we offer hands-on experiences in a variety of subjects, all taught in either the beautiful studios at the New Brunswick College of Craft & Design (NBCCD) or one of our partnering locations.
Intro to Basketry – Susannah Murphy
ONE-DAY WORKSHOP – October 24, 2026 | 9 am – 4 pm
Discover the traditional art of willow basketry in this hands-on workshop! Participants will learn the fundamental techniques used to create a classic round willow basket, from preparing the base and weaving the sides to shaping and finishing with a decorative border. Along the way, you’ll become familiar with the language, tools, and methods of working with willow while building practical skills that can be applied to many different basket styles. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a beautiful handcrafted bread/fruit basket and a strong foundation in this timeless craft.
Please note that willow weaving is a physically demanding craft and participants should expect some hand and upper body strain during the workshop.

THE INSTRUCTOR:
Susannah’s craft is rooted in the natural world. Inspired by an upbringing by two visual artists as well as her mother’s love of gardening, her work as a vegetable and flower farmer on Big Barn Little Farm, a business she co-owns with her husband, has led her to experiment with growing and harvesting wild plant material that is suitable for drying and crafting into everlasting bouquets and wreaths. Also working with cultivated willow from her own farm, she has been practicing the craft of basketry for the past decade. Susannah is a founding member of the Willows Bend Collective which is a not-for-profit co-operative of willow growers, weavers and teachers based in Antigonish county.

FAQ
Refunds
If a request for a refund is submitted at least 14 days before the course begins, you will be eligible for a 94% refund. A 6% deduction will cover the administration costs and stripe service fee. For refund requests made between 8 and 13 days before the course begins, a 75% refund will be granted. If a refund request is received within 7 days or less before the course start date, a refund will not be issued unless we can fill your spot with another participant. In the event that a participant cannot attend an in-person course due to illness, they can receive a Honeybee voucher for 75% of the value of their course that can be paid towards another class in the future. The participant will need to notify the Honeybee Coordinator before the course begins.
Cancellations
If a workshop is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances regarding the instructor facilities or low enrolment, a 100% refund will be granted to registered participants. If class is cancelled due to weather, the course will be moved to the following weekend (unless otherwise specified). If you cannot attend the new scheduled time, you will be granted a 100% refund.
