Whether you're interested in half-day workshops or multi-week courses, there's something for everyone! Located in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, we offer hands-on experiences in a variety of subjects, all taught in either the beautiful studios at the New Brunswick College of Craft & Design (NBCCD) or one of our partnering locations.

Japanese Bookbinding- Rhonda Miller

2-DAY WORKSHOP – July 20 and 21, 2024 | 9 am – 4 pm

Bookbinding has a long history in Japan and China and many traditional bookbinding techniques originated there long before many other parts of the world. In this workshop, students will explore several methods of Japanese bookbinding using traditional tools and materials. Six traditional binding methods will be covered. Several authentic antique Japanese books will be available to examine as well. Tools and materials will be provided but, if possible, please bring along a pencil and a pair of scissors.

Regular ticket price (March 22, 12 pm – July 7, 11:30 pm): $205

Additional material fee: $40 to be paid to the instructor on the day of the workshop. Please bring pencils and scissors with you.

THE INSTRUCTOR:

Rhonda Miller is a bookbinder with over twenty years experience and she has an undying fascination with book structure and historical bookbinding. She does custom bookbinding, book repair and restoration, and paper marbling. While earning her Masters of Library and Information Studies degree, she studied bookbinding at the Dawson Printshop at Dalhousie University. Later, she continued to learn through a variety of workshops and courses such as the Paper and Book Intensive. Rhonda is owner and operator of MyHandboundBooks Studio and Scotia Bookbinding in Halifax. She teaches bookbinding and paper marbling at The Centre for Craft Nova Scotia.

FAQ

Refunds

If a request for a refund is submitted at least 14 days before the course begins, you will be eligible for a 94% refund. A 6% deduction will cover the administration costs and stripe service fee. For refund requests made between 8 and 13 days before the course begins, a 75% refund will be granted. If a refund request is received within 7 days or less before the course start date, a refund will not be issued unless we can fill your spot with another participant. In the event that a participant cannot attend an in-person course due to illness, they can receive a Honeybee voucher for 75% of the value of their course that can be paid towards another class in the future. The participant will need to notify the Honeybee Coordinator before the course begins.

Cancellations

If a workshop is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances regarding the instructor facilities or low enrolment, a 100% refund will be granted to registered participants. If class is cancelled due to weather, the course will be moved to the following weekend (unless otherwise specified). If you cannot attend the new scheduled time, you will be granted a 100% refund.
